How Indra validates Eurofighter radars before flight

Domain
Air
Representation of the Eurofighter Mk1 AESA radar in operation.

Challenge

The challenge consisted in validating onboard equipment subject to specific functional requirements by means of a bespoke test solution. The test bench had to reproduce flight dynamic profiles with high precision and repeatability, synchronise mechatronics, control and instrumentation, and generate traceable evidence to support system verification and reduce risk ahead of the integration campaigns.

Solution

BETWEEN Group developed a comprehensive ground validation solution: it defined the bench architecture, designed and simulated the mechatronic assembly, developed and integrated the control software, and carried out commissioning, testing and validation. The result was a dedicated, reliable and traceable test bench for characterising the AESA radar positioner against the functional requirements for technical acceptance.

Scope

  • Design and simulation of the test bench
  • Control software development
  • System integration
  • Testing and validation
  • Test bench certification

Result

An ad-hoc test bench was supplied that enabled testing of the AESA radar in compliance with the functional requirements, reducing technical risks and improving predictability. In turn, the client secured the quality and functionality of the product while reducing programme risks.
